Grant Writer and Researcher

Role Overview: The Grant Writer and Researcher at Brave is tasked with securing funding through grants to support the organization’s initiatives in providing housing for homeless veterans. This role combines skills in persuasive writing, research, and strategic planning to identify, apply for, and win grants.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Grant Identification: Research and identify grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other sources that align with Brave’s mission to house homeless veterans.
  • Proposal Development: Write compelling grant proposals that clearly articulate the need, impact, and methodology of housing projects for veterans. Tailor each proposal to the specific requirements and interests of the grantor.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with program staff, finance, and leadership to gather necessary data and insights for proposals, ensuring accurate and detailed information is included.
  • Budget Creation: Develop detailed budgets for grant applications, ensuring they are realistic, justified, and compliant with grantor specifications.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Ensure all grant applications comply with funder guidelines. After securing grants, manage reporting requirements, including progress reports, financial accountability, and final outcomes.
  • Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain relationships with grant-making bodies, understanding their priorities and how Brave’s work aligns with their funding goals.
  • Research: Conduct thorough research to support proposals, including demographic studies, veterans’ housing needs assessments, and best practices in homeless veteran support.
  • Database Management: Maintain an organized database of past, current, and potential grant opportunities, tracking deadlines, application statuses, and follow-ups.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to strategic planning for fundraising, identifying long-term funding needs, and developing a grant strategy that aligns with organizational growth.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay informed about trends in philanthropy, changes in grant funding landscapes, especially those related to housing and veterans’ services.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in grant writing, preferably in non-profit sectors focused on housing, veterans’ affairs, or social services.
  • Strong research skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear, persuasive narratives.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
