Veteran Affairs Representative

Role Overview: The Veteran Affairs Representative at Brave plays a critical role in directly interfacing with veterans, ensuring they receive the support, resources, and advocacy needed to transition from homelessness to stable housing. This position requires a deep understanding of veterans’ unique needs, VA benefits, and community resources.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Veteran Support: Act as the primary point of contact for veterans, helping them navigate the complexities of housing applications, VA benefits, and other social services.
  • Benefits Advocacy: Assist veterans in securing and maximizing their VA benefits, including health care, disability compensation, housing vouchers, and educational benefits.
  • Case Management: Develop individualized plans for each veteran to address their specific housing needs, including case management for ongoing support and follow-up.
  • Community Resource Connection: Identify, partner with, and refer veterans to local resources such as mental health services, job training programs, and community support networks.
  • Education and Outreach: Conduct workshops, informational sessions, and one-on-one consultations to educate veterans about their rights, benefits, and available housing options.
  • Advocacy: Represent veterans in interactions with VA offices, housing authorities, and other governmental or non-governmental organizations to advocate for their needs.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of interactions, progress, and outcomes for each veteran served. Prepare reports to inform organizational strategy and funding applications.
  • Program Development: Collaborate with internal teams to develop programs or modify existing ones to better serve homeless veterans, based on trends and feedback from the veteran community.
  • Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and advocacy for veterans facing urgent housing or personal crises.
Qualifications:
  • Experience working directly with veterans, preferably within the VA system or in veteran-focused organizations.
  • Knowledge of VA benefits, services, and eligibility criteria.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and rapport with veterans from diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience in case management, social work, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • Passion for supporting veterans and understanding the challenges they face.
Skills:
  • Excellent listening and communication skills, with empathy and patience.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases with varying degrees of complexity.
  • Proficiency in advocacy and navigating bureaucratic systems.
