Volunteer Coordinator

Role Overview: The Volunteer Coordinator at Brave is responsible for recruiting, training, managing, and retaining volunteers to support the organization’s mission of providing housing and support services to homeless veterans. This role plays a crucial part in expanding Brave’s capacity through volunteer engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Recruitment: Develop and implement strategies to attract volunteers, including advertising volunteer opportunities, attending community events, and leveraging social media and other platforms for outreach.
  • Screening and Selection: Conduct interviews, background checks, and reference checks to ensure volunteers are suitable for working with veterans and align with Brave’s mission and values.
  • Orientation and Training: Organize and conduct orientation sessions for new volunteers, providing training on Brave’s programs, policies, and the specific needs of veterans. This includes sensitivity training regarding homelessness, PTSD, and other veteran-specific issues.
  • Volunteer Management: Schedule volunteers according to the needs of various programs, manage their assignments, and track their hours and contributions. Ensure volunteers are engaged and their skills are utilized effectively.
  • Retention and Recognition: Develop programs to retain volunteers through recognition, feedback, and creating a sense of community and purpose. Organize appreciation events or acknowledgments for volunteer efforts.
  • Communication: Maintain regular communication with volunteers, providing them with updates, support, and feedback. Serve as the primary contact for volunteer inquiries and issues.
  • Database Management: Keep accurate records of volunteer information, contributions, and performance in a volunteer management system.
  • Program Support: Work closely with other departments to understand their volunteer needs, help design volunteer roles that support housing initiatives, community events, or veteran support services.
  • Community Partnerships: Build relationships with other organizations, schools, and businesses to expand the volunteer base and create collaborative volunteer opportunities.
  • Feedback Loop: Collect feedback from volunteers to improve volunteer experiences and program effectiveness, using this information to adapt strategies as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in volunteer coordination or management, preferably in community service or non-profit settings.
  • Strong understanding of the benefits and challenges of volunteer engagement.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to motivate and manage a diverse volunteer base.
